A teacher by day and professional artist in my free time

The work that I do as an art educator and visual artist is critically important to providing an example of black professionalism in fields that are predominately white. Existing as an educated black woman teaching in this system is a powerful form of education in itself. My work as an artist provides a representation of black creativity in the art world. The art that I make is a depiction of black joy which is very necessary in today's culture.

I make an effort to introduce my students to black artists creating work in the media to show how far art can take you if you work hard and believe in your craft.
