an artist & educator from Birmingham,AL
a professional artist and Teacher
"The work that I do as an art educator and visual artist is critically important in providing an example of black professionalism in fields that are predominately white. Existing as an educated black woman teaching in this system is a powerful form of education in itself."
Originating from Birmingham, AL, Erin Mitchell moved to Chicago in 2007 to pursue her passion for art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011. Her interest in teaching and continued passion for art led Mitchell to Columbia College Chicago, where she graduated with her Master of Arts in Art Education in 2016.
